| INTRODUCTION TO COORG |
Coorg or Kodagu with its lush verdant forests and undulating hills and dales is an ideal getaway from the mad rush of today’s world. The healthy pure air combined with the spectacular landscapes has earned it the sobriquet ‘Scotland of the South’. Amidst these lush green forests are some of the most majestic waterfalls. This nature-lovers’ paradise has the Nagarhole National Park that is a habitat of tigers, deer, bison and elephants.
This salubrious climate with an average of 20o C is suited for cultivation of spices like cardamom and pepper. This is the home of some of the best coffee in the world. Kodagu is well connected by road to Bangalore, Mysore, Hassan and
Kerala.
The main inhabitants of the region are the martial race of Kodavas, who have contributed greatly to the nation, especially the armed forces. Late Field Marshall KM Cariappa and Late Gen Thimmayya are sons of this soil.
